The energy transition requires municipalities to rethink how heating is produced and distributed, shifting from fossil-based systems to renewable, collective solutions. However, identifying where heat networks are technically and economically viable is complex without accessible, data-driven tools.
VVSG and VITO/EnergyVille needed a solution that would:
- Translate complex geospatial and energy data into actionable heat zoning insights.
- Help municipalities prioritize zones where collective heating networks make sense.
- Provide a strategic tool to align local action plans with Flemish climate objectives.
The objective of our collaboration was to translate complex algorithms, based on vast amounts of data, into a clear and easy-to-understand application that highlights the added value for the end client. What we enjoyed most was the transparency, open communication, and the stepped approach towards building the MVP.
