Bridging the gap between research and market ready product

A unique collaboration between a research institution and a digital product studio to build impactful tools

EnergyVille and Agifly joined forces to transform complex research knowledge into impactful tools for sustainable energy. Below we explain how Proof of Concepts and Minimum Viable Products accelerated the process of bringing research data to market ready solutions.

Together, EnergyVille, a leading research institute in sustainable energy and intelligent energy systems, and Agifly work closely to translate complex research knowledge and R&D results into practical solutions, aiming to create impact through the design, development, and growth of these digital solutions. For their energy algorithm model, EBECS, we have developed various Proof of Concepts (POCs), Minimum Viable Products (MVPs), and initial versions that test energy efficiency and sustainability, for individual homeowners as well as policymakers.

A POC demonstrates the feasibility of an idea or concept, allowing our clients to validate the functionality and potential of a solution before further exploration or development. An MVP, on the other hand, is a version of a product with essential features, enabling feedback collection and learning from user experiences, facilitating quick iterations and refining the solution based on user needs and preferences. Developing a Proof of Concept (POC) involves problem or concept identification, development planning, building a working prototype, iterative improvements, and presenting the result to stakeholders.

It is a crucial step in the process of translating ideas into viable solutions, with the POC serving as tangible evidence of feasibility, functionality, and value of the concept, justifying further development. In summary, POCs and MVPs help our common clients translate research knowledge into tangible solutions.

‘The value of a Proof of Concept becomes evident as they provide a clear view of what our hyper-complex algorithm, based on vast amounts of data, can achieve. While the algorithm itself may be difficult to understand, Agifly helped us to communicate this effectively to all stakeholders,’
Pieter Vanden Steen, vito

Some benefits of POCs include:

  • Risk mitigation through early identification
  • Addressing potential risks promptly
  • Validating ideas to prove the potential and viability of a concept
  • Efficient development by focusing on essential functionalities
  • Collecting valuable feedback for improvement and supporting decision-making, and aiding in stakeholder persuasion.

Through collaborations with EnergyVille and prominent partners like AGC Europe, Luminus, KBC, ING and VVSG, we have created significant impact, demonstrating that advanced research, digital product development, and close collaboration with companies lead to innovative solutions that can facilitate the energy transition. If your company is interested in harnessing sustainable energy and intelligent energy systems, we invite you to collaborate with us.

Let us collectively create viable solutions, test your research, and contribute to a sustainable world
